Introduction
Here at Kelva Kennels, we are pleased to announce a new racing syndicate but with a difference. This a racing syndicate initially provisioned exclusively for 30 members only. If demand proves to be greater than the initial 30, we will come up with a solution/proposal and discuss with any existing members to an agreeable extension. This is being run separately and differently from the existing Jim Daly Racing Syndicates. Sorry its long winded, but we wanted to be as clear and concise with the opportunity we are offering, in the most open and honest manner.
The Concept
We will be a racing syndicate consisting of 6 graded runners at Crayford. With a set initial sign-up fee and then a regular set monthly payment, this will be a non-profit syndicate. All monies contributed will be held “in the pot” and will be directly re-invested into the syndicate. There is the added bonus that we will have two “Running Reserves” that will be available to transfer into the syndicate should one of the main dogs go lame or be forced to retire. We will state this as a graded racing syndicate, with all dogs being trained by Jim Daly and running at Crayford. It is our intention for this syndicate to evolve into a graded racing and open racing syndicate over time, whilst maintaining the low sign up fee and reasonable monthly fee. Please do not view this as an investment opportunity, it is solely for 30 people to enjoy greyhound racing at a reasonable price. An opportunity to be part of a syndicate looking forward in an honest and open manor.
Financial Information
There is an initial sign-up fee of £100; this will contribute to the purchase of the first 6 greyhounds and running reserves. Then a standard flat monthly fee of £50 payable by standing order on the first of each month. Should you wish to join, a form will be sent to you via email to fill in and return. You will receive confirmation of your syndicate membership. All monies to be held in a separate bank account held by Jim, this is so the money for purchases can be easily accessed and paying of kennel bills can be seamless.
With 30 members paying £50 per month, this would cover the basic monthly kennel bill (inc VAT) for the 6 syndicate dogs. All prize money earned will be put into the pot towards future purchases and a retirement fund for those that are not covered in the GBGB retirement bond. We are planning on allowing the pot to grow to £4000-£5000 before buying a nicer type.
The running reserves will not have a kennel bill, but with Jim retaining the prize money for these. This will change and be covered in the main 6 greyhound monthly fees once transferred in, and prize money won from that point onwards will contribute to the pot. Despite the current low rates, any interest earned on the money held in the pot will be added accordingly and presented on the monthly accounts summary. Every little helps!
Basing it on each of the 6 greyhounds having 3 runs in a month, the minimum prize money added would be £720. Therefore, we could potentially be keeping close to £1000 per month in the syndicate fund should we get 4 runs per dog per month and a couple of those being wins. This gives great optimism that we could be buying better type of greyhound in the future, whilst also maintaining the set flat monthly fee.
A monthly breakdown of accounts would be published no later than the 10th of each month. This allows for kennels bills, prize money and any other business to be processed, paid and compiled for members to view.
Unfortunately, we must add the following, but just for clarity, the £100 sign up fee is non-refundable. If you fail to pay the monthly subscription for two consecutive months you will be removed from the syndicate and forfeit your right to syndicate information and any future involvement. We are not planning to pay any dividends, but re-investing in the syndicate. Should we win a large prize e.g. £30,000 or above, then we will put it to members as to whether we take a dividend or re-invest. This will require a 20 out of 30 majority to decide.
Racing Club Greyhounds
All dogs purchased for the syndicate are the sole decision of Jim. The total price of the dog purchased will include any transport, the £200 GBGB compulsory retirement bond and £30 registration fees. This will be presented on monthly accounts presented.
These are the current greyhounds assigned to the syndicate, some are running already so the syndicate can hit the ground running. Some are now completing their trials. Please note all bitches are suppressed.
(1) Blackberry Jam – July 2018 Black and White Bitch. Totally genuine bitch with a great will to win. Currently racing A3/A4 and S3/S4. Just gone 2 years old so best days are still ahead.
(2) Dapper Dixie – December 2018 Bitch. Trialled twice in Ireland with a pleasing 29.50 Mullingar at a young age. The dogs she trialled against have gone on to be A2 Shelbourne and S2 Clonmel. She came over slightly underweight but is fit and healthy, and sure to improve as the weight goes back on. Now about to have her first solo trial. Will be qualified by 1st October for the racing club launch.
(3) Glenbowen Ruby – March 2019 Blue Bitch. Very promising bitch, recorded a flying 3.25 sectional at Cork which is top class, runs a nice bend. Only twice raced and open to lots of improvement. Doesn’t stay the 480m but will be well suited to Crayford. Has a very similar profile to the kennels runner Belfast Fellaini. Currently trialling in, expected on the card mid October.
(4) Goodbye Billy – July 2018 Black Bitch. Blessed with lovely early pace, she has worked her way through the grades nicely from A7 to A3 in just 12 runs. Surely more to come from her in the future.
(5) Crackling Bolt – August 2018 Black Dog. Lightly raced dog with nice early pace, didn't stay 480m Clonmel. Brought in as a last minute replacement for an original syndicate dog who unfortunately fought. Yet to have a trial, but expected to be qualified by the end of October.
(6) Skiproe Barney – October 2018 Black Dog. 2 runs, 2 wins at Crayford. This lightly raced dog has found his feet nicely, with a nice bit of early pace to boots. Looks a nice type to work his way through a few grades.
The Running Reserves – as mentioned above, these two are part of the syndicate. They won’t earn prize money for the pot…. but won’t cost a kennel bill. These will be included in all previews and reviews, so whilst on the bench, they are an added bonus for the syndicate.
O Maras Man – May 2018 Black Dog. Lightly raced dog who has been running at Mullingar. Has very nice early pace and hugs the rails. When he has had his trap, he’s come out brilliantly but doesn’t stay the tough 480m Mullingar. Crayford are crying out for true railers so should be feasibly treated. Currently trialling, can he force his way on to the main roster?
Trapper Ash – March 2018 Black Bitch. Second look round Crayford she improved to record 24.07 (+20) in which she was involved in a barging match on the run up and pretty much all the way round. Sure to pick up a few prizes on the way, currently on the bench, and just qualified to race
When it comes to retirement, syndicate members would have first choice if anyone could give one of these great animals a home. Glenbowen Ruby, O Maras Man, Crackling Bolt and Dapper Dixie have been registered with the compulsory £200 GBGB retirement bond. All the other current syndicate dogs will go through the RGT when the time comes, with the RGT contribution coming from the pot. As previously mentioned, all new additions will be registered with the GBGB retirement bond, and this will be factored into the purchase price of the greyhound along with transportation costs.
Contact and Information
We have a forum for members to view greyhound information, trials video, race videos, race previews and general chat. This will exclusively be for the 30 members. This can be found at kelvaracing.proboards.com/. The forum will be a central hub for members and administration whilst the syndicate is in its infancy, then progressing to other platforms mentioned below. Any member who fails to meet the monthly subscription requirements as mentioned above, would be removed. It is moderated and although we welcome views and comments, please keep it clean. Group emails will be sent from the forum, so initially you may need to check junk box and add the email address to contacts to ensure they are visible in the inbox.
We have WhatsApp groups for which you can opt in to. One will be for information only, where previews, race videos, trials results and videos will be posted as per the forum. Another WhatsApp group will be created for general chat amongst members. Again, these will be moderated.
We are on Twitter @kelvaracing and Facebook(TBC). This will be used to promote the syndicate, Jim Daly Racing and greyhound racing as an industry. This will be used as a prompt for members to check the forum for race previews. No private information will be displayed on twitter. Feel free to re-tweet and comment.
Any correspondence would be via messaging on the forum, Twitter or Facebook. Eventually WhatsApp will be added. Alternatively, we can be contacted via email KelvaRacing@hotmail.com.
Interested?
So, thank you for your time in reading this. If you would like to be part of the fun then please make your interest known by emailing KelvaRacing@hotmail.com as soon as possible as this is going to be limited to 30. We will send out a membership form to fill out and return, the form has been created so you should be able to fill out easily on mobile, tablet, PC and Mac. The membership form is simple and will just require basic contact details and your contact preferences. Bank details for the sign-up fee and standing order are at the bottom of the form. Please pay attention to our request to use your unique Kelva Racing ID, and unique Reference to use for payments and standing order. This help us ensure things can run as smoothly as possibly. If you would like to join, we would like the £100 sign up fees paid on registration, with the first monthly subscription fees being due on the 1st of each month. The syndicate will be starting on the 1st of October, with the forum and social media online now. The forum allows for members to adapt to the formats, save our contact details, comment on how the information is relayed and suggest any possible improvements.
Any questions always welcomed, but please rest assured, we are doing things as openly and honestly in all aspects of this syndicate. Feedback from some other non-Jim Daly based syndicate members come across as feeling closed out and lacking transparency.
Thank you and kindest regards from Kelva Racing.
